Luanda Jazzing

Luanda Jazzing is the first edition of an International Jazz Festival that took place in the Bay of Luanda on 24 September 2015. It featured performances from the North American Dianne Reeves, the Nigerian Nneka and the Angolan Toto. It was a relaxed atmosphere with seating and open bar, ideal for unwinding after a working day.

Organized by Showbiz (a local event company), the intention is that Jazzing become a biannual event. The idea is to offer a variety of events and performances with the aim to bring more culture to the country, interacting with local culture and contribute to the growth of our own cultural identity.



Diane Reeves – Prominent singer of Jazz, holding an improvisational prowess and unique styles of jazz and R & B. Reeves has been involved in various collaborations, highlighting Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, Arif Mardin and many others. She was the first Creative Chair of Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the first singer ever to perform at the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall. Reeves recently was part of worldwide tours in different contexts, including a program entitled ”Sing the Truth”, a musical celebration of Nina Simone that included Liz Wright and Angelique Kidjo. The singer has a total of 18 albums, with the last album (her first in five years) entitled ‘Beautiful Life’, released in 2013. Reeves has won in all five Grammys for Best Jazz Vocal.

Nneka – a hip hop/soul singer which inspire herself on artists such as Fela Kuti and Bob Marley as well as contemporary rappers Mos Def and Lauryn Hill as key influences in her own pursuit of musical recognition. She has a total of 5 released albums and most of her lyrics reflect much of her history and life in Nigeria as well as her time spent in Western Europe. Her songs stress the issues of capitalism, poverty and war and are often loaded with moral and biblical messages.

Toto –  is part of a very narrow range of real makers of music in Angola. A very talented guitar player, his songs offers harmony, tranquility, peace and inspire many lovers. With a music career of 20 years, Toto has released several albums in the market and is considered to be one of the most consistent artists in the country.
